Mal Calvert and Graham Jones organised weekly fundraising raffles.
The appeal’s area manager Graeme Cooper said the patrons’ support made this impressive total possible.
“This is the most money every raised in Ararat by any pub or club,” Mr Cooper said.
Second place went to the Ararat RSL, which raised $1453.40 and third to Aradale golf Club with $1414. The shield is donated by the Ararat Fire Brigade.
Hotel patron Mr Jones said businesses had donated discount vouchers, including Claridge’s Meats, Pizza Pro-Fresh-Nals, the Ararat Hotel and Harris' Newsagency. They also raffled off holidays to Yarrawonga.
“Mick Jennings also donated a 3.5 kilogram crayfish that raised $1030 when we drew it just before Christmas,” Mr Jones said.
He said teamwork made raising more than $8000 possible, with many people volunteering to sell raffle tickets and it had been “...a real hotel effort”.
