Eight people attended a meeting with the Ararat Basketball Association at the Ararat Fitness Centre on Tuesday night.
Association president Donna Dunmore said she was now more positive about the possibility of an Ararat team in the league than she had been before the meeting.
“I think it will be financially viable and the boys seem like they are pretty keen,” she said.
“Definitely more confident than what I was before about it happening.”
Proposals are now being prepared before the association approaches businesses for minor and major sponsorships, including a naming rights sponsor.
Dunmore said the Tuesday meeting was positive for the assocation.
"We had a much better turnout at the meeting than last time,” she said.
“So now we want expressions of interest with another meeting scheduled in three weeks where we will discuss sponsorships, and other specific details, to ensure we have everything in place.”
Dunmore said commitment from players was required to make the team a success.
“We do not want players to play a few games then walk away,” she said.
“So we are going to look at putting a commitment clause into player contracts to try and avoid that.”
She said people are welcome to call her on 0427 521 174 for more information or to express interest in getting involved.
