A MAN has been charged over the hoax bomb threat that saw the evacuation of Stawell’s Frewstal Abattoir on Wednesday morning.
Detectives from the Ararat Crime Investigation Unit charged the 34-year-old on Friday with the offence of making a bomb hoax.
The man has been bailed to appear at the Stawell Magistrates’ Court on August 16.
Police allege that while the man made the bomb threat, it was only a hoax and he never intended to carry it out.
The threat against the Abattoir Road facility was reported at 6.15am on Wednesday.
Workers were evacuated from the abattoir while officers searched for any sign of a suspicious device.
The all-clear to resume work was not given until about 10.50am when the lengthy search turned up nothing.
