Fraser’s signing is a huge boost for the Hawks and Mininera and District Football League.
A 200-game player with Collingwood before he finished his career at the Gold Coast, Fraser will juggle Tatyoon commitments with his coaching job at VFL club Northern Blues.
Tatyoon coach, Adrian Pilgrim, confirmed the news this week and said it was very exciting to have a player of Fraser’s calibre arrive at the club.
“Josh is looking forward to coming up and having a kick of footy. Hopefully he can lift the profile of the league without too much pressure,” Pilgrim said.
The Hawks are hopeful Fraser can play five to eight games in 2016, however it is subject to his availability and commitments with the Northern Blues. It is unlikely Fraser will be available for another few weeks.
Pilgrim said the signing is great for the club’s junior footballers.
“We haven’t had a a lot of numbers in the under 17s, and parents may think of sending their kids down to us, whether they are Pies or even Gold Coast supporters,” he said.
“We’re obviously keen to boost our numbers. Being a family friendly club, hopefully we can get a few more people down.”
The Hawks coach acknowledged the excitement surrounding Fraser’s impending arrival.
“It’s a win for Tatyoon to get someone of Josh’s quality to help our young group out,” Pilgrim said.
“The games he is playing will be 50-50 split, so they won’t be just Tatyoon home games – other clubs will benefit also.”
Tatyoon has unveiled a number of signings in 2016, with Shaun Orr, Jesse Silver, Jake Williamson and Harry Ganley making their debut in last weekend’s two-point loss to Wickliffe-Lake Bolac. The Hawks take on Hawkesdale-Macarthur this weekend at Macarthur.
