For many years the opening event has been an art exhibition featuring regional Victorian artists.
In 2016, organisers will present a new concept in the form of an art auction, showcasing handmade Australian artworks with an emphasis upon the festival theme, Aboriginal land management.
“We’re seeking artists to join us in this fresh, innovative venture,” event organiser Elyjah McLeod said.
Mr McLeod said the event was also the perfect opportunity for people to learn more about handmade Australian art and Aboriginal land management practices.
“Meet the artists and hear their stories. Celebrate and value their talents. Get caught up in the fun as you mingle with friends and artists. Buy original artworks inspired by country. Enjoy a delicious dinner after the auction. Then take your art home with you to enjoy forever, a unique way to appreciate and remember the joy of community and creativity,” he said.
“Afterwards, enjoy dessert and coffee at the local pub and listen to some excellent live music. This will get you in the mood for Saturday’s festivities.
Proceeds from the purchase of artworks will benefit both artists and the ongoing future of the festival, which promotes awareness of Aboriginal culture and environmental sustainability.
An art auction supported by the Beyond Bolac Catchment Action Group will benefit a landscape restoration project covering the catchments of the Fiery Creek, Lake Bolac and Salt Creeks.
