A delightful program with well–known works by Mozart, Hadyn, Schubert and Correlli is set take place. This is in addition to Christmas carols, including some Australian carols by the famous Ballarat composer W.G. James, that will be performed by the Kara Kara Quartet.
The Kara Kara Quartet was formed early this century from members of the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra.
Kara Kara is a local Aboriginal term for gold in quarts, not uncommon in Victoria’s “Golden Triangle” where the members live.
The soft gold and sparkling quartz being synonymous with the music performed.
Current members of the Quartet are Rhiannon Delpero – Leader/first violin, Millie Koenders – second violin, Helen Varney – viola and John Dods – violoncello.
Rhiannon is a violin teacher in Melbourne’s western suburbs and she has been trained in classical music since the age of 10 while Millie joined the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra two years ago. Before that, she was with the Murray Conservatorium Orchestra.
Helen grew up in England, changing from violin to viola in her late teens. She has spent decades performing in orchestras from England and Australia.
John has been in the Ballarat Symphony Orchestra since 2002 and performs regular recitals around the region. Following a break from music, John returned over 20 years ago and hasn’t looked back.
This special pre-Christmas event is presented by Stawell Regional Arts and is a great opportunity for families to enjoy Christmas classics and some old favourites.
