The Go Set is a five-piece punk rock band formed in 2003.
The band has released six albums, consistently toured Australia as well as embarking on regular tours of the UK, Europe, New Zealand and Japan playing its own shows and at numerous festivals.
The group's main style is based around punk rock with strong undertones of folk punk and Celtic punk with the use of traditional folk instruments like mandolin, bagpipes and accordion in the music. The Go Set has supported bands like The Living End, The Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, The White Stripes and Real Big Fish among others.
The Go Set is often compared to bands like The Clash, The Pogues, early Midnight Oil and Weddings Parties Anything. The Go Set demonstrate a strong historical, social and political conscience in its lyrics with a unique Australian pub rock character.
The Ararat Live audience will be perhaps interested to know that The Go Set teamed up with Australian legend Mick Thomas (Weddings Parties Anything) to record its third album A Journey for a Nation in 2007.
In 2012, they released a self titled album, The Go Set, with Craig Harnath (Bodyjar, The Living End). This album is a slight move away from the previous folky sounds and is a much more stripped back rock album.
In 2014, the Go Set toured the USA and Canada successfully landing a deal with Massachusetts label East Grand for the release of a 'Best Of' compilation early in 2015. Throughout its journey over a period of more than a decade, the band has filmed its struggles of remaining independent, the highs and lows of touring and the process of writing and recording. The DVD titled Who's Asleep is planned to be released in 2015 but can be pre-ordered from its web site.
In 2015 the Go Set has toured the USA, Canada and Europe, playing in Ararat as part of the Australian leg. The tour is to release and promote the retrospective compilation, a new studio album and a full length feature film on DVD.
The Go Set will take to the stage at the Red Room on Wednesday from 8pm.
