Chalambar member Brennan and Werry from Stawell Bowls Club, were solid performers in the two-day ladies-only event. They were up against a number of the best women from throughout Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia, many who were current or former state bowls representatives.
Day one saw players participate in three games of 12 ends and then two games of 12 ends on day two.
The pair combined well for the two days, winning four out of the five games. The first game was against a pair from Irymple and they won 20 to 4 shots. Brennan and Werry also won their second game 12-7, and third they claimed 20-8.
Their winning streak continued in the fourth game, 11-4 although it came to an end in the fifth game against an experienced South Australian pair. Brennan and Werry lost 8-11. Lyn Prosso from Marion in Adelaide, a premier league player, and Loxton’s Lorraine Lee had been playing in the event for the past 10 years.
The match was close throughout, with Brennan and Werry going down by three shots. The pair just missed out on the playoffs for prize money as they required five wins to reach playoff finals.
Entries for the event were limited to 124 ladies pairs, with the winners receiving $1200 each, plus names on perpetual trophy, runner up teams received $750 each and equal third $350 each.
Brennan and Werry narrowly missed tenth place with four wins and 37 shots up, with tenth place taken by a Bendigo pair with four wins and 61 shots up.
The presentation night on Friday was a great night with an Asian theme fancy dress, with a DJ and great music, dancing, sixty raffles and a lovely catered two course meal.
The ladies finished a credible 13th place overall from 124 pairs. Both described it as a wonderful first-time experience, with everyone being so friendly. The pair plan to go back next year to hopefully go one better and make the final playoffs.
