Cameron received the Lewis Medal at Monday night’s presentation awards dinner in Caramut. The Hawks’ coach polled 32 votes to finish ahead of Lismore/Derrinallum’s Michael Lockyer on 29.
It has been an outstanding season for Cameron, who has guided his side to its 10th grand final appearance in 11 years. In the reserves, Lismore/Derrinallum’s Elliott Pyke took home the best and fairest. Pyke received 22 votes, while it was a tie for runner up honours between Tatyoon’s Tim Barr and Glenthompson/Dunkeld’s David Walkley on 18 votes.
Nathan Rensch was named the under 16.5 player of the year. Rensch, with 39 votes, took home the best and fairest from Ararat Eagles’ Zac Jenkins on 34. Paul’s Dairy Most Valuable Player went to Woorndoo/Mortlake’s Richard McCormick with 45 votes.
Lismore/Derrinallum forward, Wayne Loader was leading senior goal kicker. Loader has been a force to be reckoned with this season, and finished with 118 goals. Adam Griffin (SM&W Rovers) was reserves leading goal scorer with 81 while Penshurst’s Campbell Watt led the way in the under 16.5 goal kicking. Watt booted 49 majors for the season.
Not surprisingly, champion club went to minor premiers Tatyoon with 91 points. Hawks’ Geoff Phillips and Cam Conboy were joint winners of the under 12 coach/administrator of the yearn award.
Hawkesdale/Macarthur’s Lachlan Reichman was named under 16.5 coach of the year and under 16.5 umpire of the year went to Rob Millard from Lismore/Derrinallum. Charlie Gordon (Woorndoo/Mortlake) received the reserves umpire of the year award.
Tatyoon’s Maryanne McDougall was named the inaugural Peter Gorst volunteer of the year.
There were several milestones celebrated in 2015. Wickliffe/Lake Bolac veteran, Bradley Keilar notched up 300 senior games while Scott Henderson (Lismore/Derrinallum) and Tatyoon’s Joshua McDougall and Tim Barr recorded 300 club games. South West Coaches Association awards went to Brendan Mills (Penshurst) for coach of the year, Jo Armstrong (Tatyoon) was administration award winner and the distinguished service award was handed to Joshua McDougall.
