The best scratch score for the day of 74 was recorded by Michael Harricks, while Glenn Faneco arrived at the course with only seconds to spare to record a 75 gross from his handicap of eight to win A grade and the monthly medal with net 67, leaving Tilla Horvath with the runner-up spoils on his net 70.
In B grade Jim Brennan overcame an unfortunate amount of noise pollution from his playing partner's ailing golf cart to return with a net 68 from Lloyd Grice on 72.
The countback system was required to find a winner in C grade with Frank Kitchen prevailing over Bill Bibby each having scored a net 69.
Jason Heard, Clyde Vearing, and Norm Clark collected balls courtesy of the vets with birdies on the first hole, while on the last the Tivey and Holland birdie hole, only Horvath was successful.
Nearest the pins went to Horvath (2nd), Roger Pearse (6th), Heard (8th), Stuart Muller (15th), David Jennings (16th) and Brad Ward (18th).
The computer drawn 'Secret Six Holes' best score went to Muller, while consolation balls were collected by Alan Wilson on 70 and Michael Harricks, Robert Harricks, Heard, Muller, Greg Graham and Des Hull all 72.
Some good scores were recorded in the Thursday chicken run, with Neil Brehaut on 41 and Ken Hurnall and Robert Harricks on 38 points all enjoying a roast chicken dinner.
Today the Chalambar Golf Club hosts round two of the Grampians Golf Tour, while tomorrow's club competition is the Jim Kelly three person aggregate stableford event.
