Ms Beattie said it was an extremely successful day, with the war memorial decorated with knitted poppies for the occasion. Inside were more poppies and a display of medals, shells, photos and other memorabilia.
About 180 people were in attendance and listened to Ms Beattie talk about her research and the stories of the young soldiers from the district who served in World War I.
The response from the audience was excellent and there were many reunions and chatting following the event
"Among those who attended were a number of the sons and daughters of the soldiers, some who had travelled from Melbourne and other long distances for the day, many in their late 80s and 90s," Ms Beattie said.
"There were even family members from Queensland who attended."
Bronwyn Shalders spoke about the display featuring Poppy Tiles at the Mount Cole cemetery for the seven soldiers buried there and interested families were able to visit it on their way home.
Another highlight saw 100-year-old Mona Lewin recite a poem she read as a seven-year-old at the opening of the War Memorial.
Some copies of the book are available from Bronwyn Shalders 53543208 and Margaret Beattie 52785225.
