The major fundraiser for Ararat Legacy will be held on Monday, March 9 with golfers from far and wide set to converge on the Chalambar Golf Club.
The event has something for everyone, with a number of valuable trophies and prizes on offer for the scratch and handicap winners of A, B and C grades. The A grade men's handicap is sponsored by First National Real Estate, Grampians Insurance Brokers is sponsoring B grade and Boyd's Body Works sponsors C grade.
The winner of the ladies' handicap will receive a trophy donated by 2Taggs, while prizes will also be up for grabs for the golfer with the longest drive and those who get nearest the pins.
The Lin Harricks memorial trophy named in honour of one of the inaugural members of the Ararat Legacy Club has been presented to the player with the best scratch score for more than 40 years and continues to be a highly sought after prize for A grade golfers.
This year's field will be keen to add their name to the winners' list.
The Kevin Lewin memorial shield will also be up for grabs for a seventh year. The award honours the long-time Legatee and Vietnam veteran and is presented to the golfer with the best handicap score.
The Ararat Legacy Golf Day is always well supported by Chalambar Golf Club members, with many already registered and looking forward to a top day of golf, while other local golf club members from across the district have also shown enthusiasm.
Ararat Legatee, Terry Hinch said the event continued to be very popular, with about 60 to 80 golfers turning up each year depending on the weather.
Ararat Legacy aims to raise about $2,500 each year.
The organisation provides support for war widows across the region, from Stawell to Ararat, Willaura to Beaufort and everywhere in between.
"We are down to about 180 widows now and the majority of those are still second World War widows, but because of their age the attrition rate is starting to get fairly heavy," Mr Hinch said.
Mr Hinch said a top day had been planned, with teams of four set to play 18 holes around the picturesque Chalambar course, beginning at 12pm with a shotgun start.
A local Legatee has once again put up $500 for a hole in one on the final hole, while other great prizes will be on offer throughout the day, so come along and try your luck.
Entry to the competition costs $15, which includes a barbecue lunch and afternoon tea at the end of play. Golfers can either enter on the day or contact Terry Hinch on 5352 7966 or 0407 500 316 to register or for more information.
