After seeking community assistance to find the original gates Ararat Rural City Council was not able to locate them.
Many residents contacted council and provided information about the original gates, and while all suggestions were followed up none lead to finding the original gates. Council appreciates the concern of the community and information provided.
As a result council obtained quotes from a suitable manufacturer to replicate the gates and Lloyd Astbury from Maryborough was engaged to undertake this work.
The gates have been replicated using old photos of the original and the colour matched from original paint work found on the hinge attachment on the blue stone pillars in consultation with council's heritage adviser.
The gates have now been installed and complement recent works carried out in the gardens' precinct including the installation of paths, bridges and exercise equipment.
