Mr Wilson has put a smile on quite a few faces as he drives the streets of Ararat in his gopher, sporting Daniel McGlone signs.
“Whirley’s always been a bit of a character,” one amused passer by said.
“He used to fix my old Peugeot - kept it running for years.”
When asked why he was doing this Mr Wilson said he had been a Labor man all his life.
“I reckon Ararat has only gone ahead when there has been a Labor member here for us,” Mr Wilson said.
“Joe Helper brought so many great things to Ararat - the building of the new part of the hospital - and he brought the train back - the prison extension was ticked off in Joe’s time, so many jobs for Ararat out there, and still going.
“And now that Joe’s retiring after so many years of good work, there is Daniel McGlone, well, I heard he was here in his Barrister job representing Ararat folk in court a couple of weeks ago, seems like a good bloke Daniel, I’m happy to tell people about him too, that’s why I’m doing this.”
