The Salvation Army is running the Mainly Music program in Ararat, which is a music movement program for babies and preschoolers that had it beginnings in New Zealand.
Each week children enjoy a half hour session of music and movement followed by morning tea and then craft activities and play time.
Lieutenant Lynne Turnbull from the Ararat Salvation Army said the program is a learning tool for youngsters as well as a way for parents to connect in a social situation.
"It's a way for mums to connect with their kids, something they can do together," she said.
"We sing some nursery rhymes and incorporate movement and the kids learn co-ordination.
"There is a social aspect to it too."
The Mainly Music program has been operating for just over a term and is proving popular with local families.
"It is a good place for mums to connect with other mums, building up social networks and where they can relax and have a coffee too," she said.
Mainly Music is held each Thursday at 10am at the Salvation Army.
