Man assaulted in Barkly Street brawl

An Ararat man was conveyed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with head injuries after a brawl in the Ararat CBD early on Sunday morning.

The brawl broke out at about 3.30am on Sunday morning in Barkly Street involving a large group of people, with Ararat Police called to disperse the crowd.

The 27 year old man was found lying on the footpath and after being treated by ambulance officers he was conveyed to Melbourne for treatment.

A 31 year old Ararat man is assisting police with their enquiries and anyone who witnessed the brawl is asked to contact Sergeant Paul Covey at the Ararat Police Station on 5355 1500 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
