Woodland bird expert Dean Ingerwersen is visiting Ararat to deliver a one day workshop as part of the Glenelg Hopkins CMA Woodland Birds project, which aims to protect woodland habitat.
The workshop is aimed at land managers, especially farmers, due to the vital role they play in managing and conserving woodland habitat. These declining woodland habitats of South East Australia are vital for the ongoing survival of Woodland bird species. People with an ongoing interest in birds are also welcome to join the day.
Dean Ingwersen has been involved in bird conservation projects for the past 10 years and is the current Threatened Bird Program Manager at BirdLife Australia. He also serves on the recovery teams for the Regent Honeyeater and the Swift Parrot.
Ingwersen has also managed the Threatened Bird Network at Birds Australia for four years, assisting recovery teams around the country to integrate volunteers into their work. He has previously coordinated Orange-bellied Parrot surveys and was also a contributor to the Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds.
He has completed research into the foraging ecology of mixed-species bird flocks in temperate Eucalypt woodland, obtaining several unique results previously unreported. In his spare time Dean runs a volunteer-based bird banding project in central Victoria, and has in recent years become a prize-winning wildlife and nature photographer.
The day will be jointly hosted by the Upper Hopkins Land Management Group and Glenelg Hopkins CMA, and will be held on Sunday, June 15, at Gum San Conference Centre from 9.30am to 3pm.
