The band competed against two other D grade bands, Maryborough City Brass Band and Eaglehawk Citizens Band.
Three numbers were performed on the day, Euphonium solo, 'City of Gold' by Melbourne composer Mike Fitzpatrick (soloist Geoff Coote), an arrangement of 'Happy' (Pharrell Williams) by band member Nicole Pernice, which featured the trombone section (Tammie Meehan, Roger Turner, Olivia McColl and Olivia Larkins) and 'Music from Kantara' a major work by Scottish composer Kenneth Downie.
"The band was overjoyed by their win, especially given it was their first competition in over ten years," band representative Sandra Pope said.
"There were also eight members of the band who had never competed before."
Cornet player Walter Pope was also successful in winning the under 10 brass solo section, and then teamed up with his dad, Wally Pope, to receive an honourable mention in the open duets section.
The band is always looking for new players and anyone interested in joining the band should contact Sandra Pope on 0413 624 175.
Rehearsals are held Mondays 7pm - 9 pm in the bandroom at the rear of the Ararat Performing Arts Centre. Learners' groups are held from 6pm - 7 pm on Mondays.
