President Alwyn Kitchen welcomes new members and returning members to Ararat U3A and said the group is looking forward to continuing its programs and is planning to add more.
University of the Third Age (U3A) starts term one sessions next Monday February 3 and continuing and new members are most welcome to enrol. Term one registration and enrolment will take place on Monday and Tuesday between 11 am and 12 noon at NMIT or contact secretary Margaret Burbidge for an enrolment form. U3A Ararat is based at the NMIT Training Centre (ex Aradale) in Grano Street, while some sessions are held at the William Bryant Community Centre, next to the Ararat Retirement Village, 27 Albert Street Ararat.
Programs will be held at NMIT on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays each week of the school term and this term there will be a special Singing with Fay White session and an American Heroes session.
More than 30 people enjoyed Fay White's lively singing session in November and she is returning on Thursday March 13 commencing at 10am and concluding at midday. This singing session is open to members but non-members are welcome.
A new course, American Heroes, traces the lives of some of the people who made America such a great country. This will start on Thursday February 6 at 1.30pm at NMIT and will be led by Frank Kitchen.
The following are some of the programs that have been enjoyed in the past and will be continuing: Games including Samba, Solo and Scrabble, woodwork classes at the Woodies room (behind the Ararat Bowling Club), art, computer, ASX (Australian Stock Exchange), family history, lovers of music, walking in and around Ararat and other programs will be included on registration day.
Grampians Texture (www.grampianstexture.com.au) from February 22-27 at Halls Gap will provide a great opportunity for textile artists to attend workshops on activities from jewellery, printing and felting, lead by renowned and talented tutors. There will be a Twilight Makers Market on Saturday February 22 which is well worth attending.
Ararat U3A's annual general meeting will be held on Monday March 3 at 1.30pm. The guest speaker will be Helen Tucker who will speak on her travels in Peru. This will be followed by afternoon tea.
In the past year, U3A members have participated in a number of trips, including to the Australian Gardens Cranbourne while Ararat U3A combined with the Stawell U3A to visit Castlemaine and its Art Gallery. The Gallery has an outstanding collection of Australian Art which members enjoyed and related to.
