Mayor Cr Paul Hooper said the successful nomination for the Citizen of the Year Award went to a very special resident of the municipality for his outstanding commitment to the community over many years.
"Dave is a dedicated person who is passionate about the local music scene and has lived in Ararat all his life," Cr Hooper said.
"A self taught musician he is a dedicated community member and the driving force behind a local music event held at Moyston - Moyston Live," Cr Hooper said.
Mr Nicholson was also the instigator of the popular Ararat Live, a not for profit group which brings live music to Ararat on a regular basis.
"Dave has contributed enormously to the cultural life of Ararat and continues to be a well known ambassador for this town," Cr Hooper said.
Cr Hooper presented Mr Nicholson with a certificate and offered his congratulations, telling the large crowd in Alexandra Gardens that he was a worthy recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award.
