The Nationals member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty announced the council would receive the funding as part of the Victorian Coalition Government's Country Roads and Bridges Fund.
"The four year Country Roads and Bridges Program is now in its third year and provides up to $1 million, per council, per year to 40 rural councils," Mr Delahunty said.
"The $1 million worth of extra funds has each been allocated to West Wimmera, Horsham, Hindmarsh, Southern Grampians and Ararat Shire Councils for maintenance and restoration of existing road or bridge infrastructure in regional Victoria."
Ararat Rural Council Mayor Paul Hooper said proposed works with the extra $1 million will include seal widening, shoulder sealing, bridge replacement and rural reconstruction works.
"We will widen and seal the shoulders on Moyston Willaura Road; reconstruct a section of pavement on Mount William Road; provide kerb and channel on Eyre Street and replace the bridge on Buangor Ben Nevis Road," Cr Hooper said.
