Robyn Thackeray has taken over the establishment in a deal that was six years in the making.

Ms Thackeray said she was "super excited" to run her own business.

"It is a bit surreal actually, I can't believe I own a supermarket," she said.

"When I came in here to shop six years ago he mentioned he was interested in selling.

"I said when you are ready to sell, let me know. He did that, so here I am.

"It is a little bit scary so I will just take it day by day as it comes. It is pretty cool, I am super excited.

"I thought through COVID-19 this was one of the best businesses to get into."

Ms Thackeray said she plans to put her touch on the Supermarket through selling local products.

"I want to have a bit more of a giftware range, a bit more of a variety," she said.

"My daughter is planting up plants for the plants section we will have out the back.

"I have a lady doing soaps and bath salts.

"I have been in contact with local wineries who will have their wine for sale in the shop.

"They are all going to have their little sections in the shop.

"It will take a couple of months to set it all up."

Ms Thackeray said the Willaura Supermarket would remain a family business.

"I have my daughter who will be helping and my partner will be doing maintenance work, " she said.

"I have Grace Marshall who I worked with at IGA, she is working with me permanently.

"Depending on how busy we get we might need to hire more staff, to allow me to have a weekend off."

Mr Samborski said he loved his time running the store.

"It was smooth sailing," he said.

"We have really enjoyed running the shop. We had good support from the community.

"I am 67 now, now that we have sold the supermarket we will have more freedom and free time for ourselves."

Mr Samborski said he would cherish interacting with customers.

"There were a lot of memorable moments and a lot of great interactions," he said.

"I am not the best at recognising people and at one stage it took me 10 years to find out two customers were husband and wife.

"When you see them shopping you don't realise.

"That's funny, isn't it?"

Mr Samborski said the store was in good hands.

"I am sure that in a week or two Robyn (Thackeray) will have it all under control," he said.

"Her experience with people and her skills will set her up for success.

"We have prepared the shop for the next 20 years of operation."
