A team of specialists removed numerous mature trees near the Chalambar Golf Club's second hole to enable the multi-million dollar housing development to progress.
The club has a master plan that could see 106 lots made available around the golf course.
However, Chalambar Golf Club board director Garry Todd said removing the trees is simply to accommodate the first nine lots.
"Stage one of the subdivision is well and truly underway," he said.
"The trees (being removed) are part of the planning permit to put residential housing there. It's because of fire safety."
The lots are situated on the second hole, facing Golf Links Road. No other holes will be affected by the initial developments.

Mr Todd said the club is also planning to relocate the second hole.
"We've found a spot to replace that hole within the course, work is underway for that as well," he said.
"The hole will go down, adjacent to the current fifth hole."
Though not directly involved with the sales of the lots, Mr Todd is a rural sales specialist at Elders Ararat, which was appointed as the selling agent for the lots.
OTHER NEWS:
He said while the properties had attracted plenty of attention from prospective buyers, the club would not rush into further subdivisions.
"We have confirmation of four blocks being sold out of the nine. There's another three that will possibly sell over this weekend," he said.
"There's been strong interest all the way through.
"We're still in discussions with Villawood in regards to stage two. But at the end of the nine allotments, I think we'll probably sit back and take a deep breath and see where we're situated as a club."
