Emergency crews were called to a property just off the Ballarat-Carngham Road at 10.35am.
The man is believed to have been operating a piece of farming machinery at the time of the incident.
Police are unsure whether the accident was caused by mechanical or operator error.
It is believed people living at the property notified emergency services.
WorkSafe are on site and are assisting police with their inquiries.
The death comes amid a horror year for Victoria’s farming community, with six of the 10 confirmed workplace fatalities across the state in 2018 occurring in agriculture.
Just one week ago a man in his 70s was killed after being run over by a trailer at a property near Ouyen, south of Mildura.
Meanwhile in early April a man in his 20s was killed after being struck by a tractor attachment at a property at Carwarp, also near Mildura.
Two workers were also killed when a trench collapsed on a work site in Delacombe in March.
Two men were also lucky to escape with their lives when a boiler exploded at a grain processing facility in Smeaton earlier this month.
