All money raised from the sale of pancakes at the Barkly Street church will go to support the work of Uniting Vic.Tas, the community services organisation of the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria and Tasmania.
Pancake Day committee member Philippa Hale said the pancake morning raised $461.
“We estimate we served about 70 people, and a couple of dozen children from the kindergarten, who ate in the kinder because it was their first day,” she said.
“There were also about a dozen helpers, who enjoyed pancakes when they were able to take a welcome break.”
Funds raised will be used in local communities where Uniting is delivering programs and services.
These range from emergency relief for families facing food crisis, to supporting homeless people; from finding work for the disabled, to supporting an older person to live independently.
Ararat’s Tony Shea, who dropped in to the church for pancakes, said he wasn’t going to put the ‘all you can eat’ policy to the test.
“I’m no Homer Simpson, but i’m here to have my fill,” he said.
“It’s a great cause and I came last year and I’ll be back next year and I think i’ll keep coming every year as long as I’m here.”
