The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a top of 41 degrees for Stawell on Saturday, which at this point in time is too hot to play.
Grampians Cricket Association’s heat policy outlines if at 10am a top of 40 degrees or more is forecast for Stawell the day’s play will be abandoned.
GCA president David Turner said umpires will follow the policy and make the determination at 10am on match day.
“A decision is not normally made until 10am on Saturday so we will wait and see,” he said.
“We won’t make a call too early this time like we did for the rain a few weeks ago – we probably could have played that weekend after the heavy rain didn’t arrive.”
Turner said if play does go ahead it is important for players to be safe and take care of themselves.
“Teams are encouraged to take more drinks breaks and captains should manage players to make sure they don’t become exhausted,” he said. “It is important for all involved to drink plenty of water and keep an eye out for anyone that may be struggling in the heat.”
