It was another weekend of mixed results for the Ararat Redbacks, winning one of three games played across Saturday and Sunday.
The men’s team took on the South West division’s team to beat in the Mt Gambier Lakers and went down in a high scoring affair on Saturday night at the Ararat Fitness Centre.
45 points from Dellon Brown was the difference for the Lakers, as they recorded a 103-80 win.
Redbacks coach Steve Cronin said the match will be remembered as “the one that got away”.
“My blokes did everything i asked of them but we couldn’t shut him (Brown) down. He was the factor,” he said.
“It was a really free flowing game. Other than a patch in the second quarter where we couldn’t hit our shots we were able to run with them.”
The Redbacks had to back up for a game against the Portland Coasters on Sunday, where they were able to come home strongly and claim a 81-76 win.
The Redbacks held a big lead early in the game, but let the Coasters back into the match in the final term.
“Our boys dug deep and pushed through any tiredness they might have had,” Cronin said.
“We maintained possession and made the right shot selections.”
The Redbacks will be hoping Jason Cameron will be able to recover from an injured ankle for their next game in two weeks time.
The women’s Redbacks side struggled in their game against the Coasters, going down 28-52.
