ARARAT’S Golden Gateway Festival has named Daryl Lowerson as its King.
Mr Lowerson said he felt totally humbled and proud to have been asked to fulfill this role.
“I have been a resident of Ararat for the past 39Yrs,” he said.
“My partner Julie and myself have raise and educate five children in this wonderful Rural City of Ararat and we share five wonderful grandchildren, who unfortunately do not reside in Ararat but we spend as much valuable time with them when they visit or we go to visit them
“During this period, I have worked full time in the gas service industry and have had the great delight of meeting and working with the residence of Ararat and surrounding areas.”
Mr Lowerson said he became a member of the Ararat Musical Comedy Society along with his daughter Natalie in 1990 and became part of Cast in Fiddler On the Roof.
“I fell in love with stage performance and have been an active member serving on committee and president on a number of occasions, working alongside a group of dedicated people to produce and perform in a number of shows over this period,” he said.
Mr Lowerson is also a long member of the Ararat Beef and Burgundy Club and his other interests include socialising and travel.
The Golden Gateway Festival will kick off with School’s Day on October 20 at 10am at Alexandra Gardens, featuring an interschool push cart and human powered vehicle challenge.
Later that evening will be the Ararat Golden Gateway Opening Ball at the St Andrews Hall, Barkly Street with doors open 8pm.
The Ararat Gold Dig will take place on October 21 and 22 at Green Hill Lake Reserve starting from 8.30am.
The Festival Variety Concert will be on October 22 at St Andrews Hall at 2pm.
Christian’s Ararat Mystery Bus Trip will be on from 10am-3pm on October 24.
Chally’s Bar & Bistro Festival Lunch with the King and Queen will be on October 27 from 12-2pm.
The Moyston Cemetery Walk will meet at McDonald Mausoleum at 2pm on October 28.
Billy Cart Racing on Barkly Street will start at 9am on October 29. The festival will then conclude with a parade down Barkly Street at 11.30am.

Golden Gateway Festival School’s Day
Friday 20th October 10.00am Alexandra Gardens
The focus of this year’s event shall be the interschool push cart and human powered vehicle challenge to take place in the Alexandra Gardens.
Ararat 800, Ararat North, Ararat West and St. Marys plus guests Stawell West Primary school shall be taking part the primary schools push cart challenge.
The schools are currently constructing their push carts for participation in the event, where teams of students shall take part in a gruelling endurance and action sprint races.
A fun filled picnic is planned with a range of entertainment to ensure the students shall enjoy their Golden Gateway Festival school day.
This shall include the ‘crowning of the King’ and ceremonial performing circus.
The interschool push cart and human powered vehicle event is being kindly being supported by Gason Engineering, with the Central Grampians LLEN, Pacific Hydro, and Ararat Rural City supporting ‘picnic in the park.’

The Ararat Golden Gateway Festival will begin with the Opening Ball at the St Andrews Hall, Barkly Street.
The 2017 Festival Queen will be announced and the Coronation Ceremony will be performed by 2016 Queen and Official Party.

Ararat Gold Dig
Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd October
Green Hill Lake Reserve, Ararat
MAJOR PRIZE: 2 x Metal Detectors.
There will be three sessions held across the weekend, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
Presentations will be at 1.30pm on Sunday.
Participants will search for tokens strategically placed on each dig site, while there is the possibility of finding real gold in the area.
All tokens found from each session will be collected and entered for overall champion.
There will be many other prizes to be won over the weekend.
Rules and regulations are to be adhered to by all participants.
Entrants are required to supply their own metal detectors.
The event is fully catered for all meals over two days, breakfast from 8.30am Saturday.
