The Burras got over a spirited Warrack Eagles side in a thrilling 10.16 (76) to 11.3 (69) win.
Minyip-Murtoa coach Damian Cameron said the tough win felt particularly good.
“I keep telling the boys I don’t like getting in sticky situations but if you can pull yourself out of them almost every single time it feels good,” he said.
The Warrack Eagles were kicking with the breeze in the first quarter and made the most of it in the early stages.
Neither side could get a goal on the board until the Eagles managed to kick the first of the game five minutes into the contest.
Another two quick goals followed for the Eagles as the Burras continued to miss opportunities at the other end.
The pre-game favourites managed just one in the quarter and trailed the Eagles by seven points at quarter-time.
The Eagles were again quicker out of the blocks in the second quarter as the game settled into a tough battle.
Neither side could establish an ascendancy as it went goal for goal during the quarter. Every time the Burras looked to get on top the Eagles responded.
The trend of the game continued in the third quarter before the Burras established a 10-point three-quarter-time lead after two late goals.
Early in the fourth quarter it looked as though Jesse Murphy was going to lift his side into the grand final.
The big forward kicked two goals to give his side a narrow two-point lead.
The Burras seemed to lift in intensity as the ball started to live in the side’s forward half. Pat Purcell and Cameron kicked points which put the side in front.
It was then left to Blake Young to scramble a goal with two minutes left in the game to give the side its seven-point win.
“We were going end to end without knowing what was going to happen,” Cameron said.
“Blake had played back most of the day but we put him forward because he has a habit of getting a sneaky goal. It was such a relief at that point.”
