Ararat Sergeant Shane Allgood said a 24-year-old man was intercepted by police on High Street in relation to drink driving.
“He was required to come back to the station for an EBC breath test,” he said.
“As a result of the test he was required to attend court and his car was impounded to boot.
“The male was returned to his car to the impound could take place with police members.”
Sergeant Allgood said the male became aggressive when a tow truck arrived to collect his vehicle at about 10.45pm.
“As a result he assaulted two police members who were left with very minor injuries,” Sergeant Allgood said.
“He was arrested, returned to the station and charged in relation to the assaults and bailed to appear in court at a future date.”
Sergeant Allgood said Victoria Police had a zero tolerance approach to assaults on its officers.
