Ms Kealy shared the image on social media site twitter on Monday evening.
A large, dark coloured four-wheel-drive or covered ute appeared to have been caught between the boom gates and rail tracks at the crossing near the Barkly, Alfred and High streets roundabout.
“Jeepers, pretty close call for the fella in front of me at Ararat!” Ms Kealy posted with the image.
Twitter users asked Ms Kealy how the incident happened, given that the intersection along the Western Highway on the east side of Ararat gave plenty of warning.
“Didn't slow down in time, maybe not paying attention? Tried to reverse but boom gate already down. Don't think train driver very impressed!” Ms Kealy replied.
Nine News Melbourne reporter Andrew Lund replied that the incident happened on day one of Rail Safety week.
