The club’s president Col Campbell said McKinnon had all the qualities required for a strong coach.
“We are absolutely rapt with how he’s coached the team this year,” he said.
“He’s well respected and has great leadership qualities. He’s been pretty fantastic for a first-year coach.
“Only a couple players got away from us this year and he did a great job recruiting this season. He works hard and has helped improve the side. All we need to do is put four quarters together.”
Campbell said the club was on the right track.
“There is a real positive vibe around the place,” he said. “We lost key players this year along with injuries to key players early in the season. We have managed to have some great games this season.”
The Roos have some good opportunities to finish the season on a high note and Campbell is confident the side can do that.
“Four new blokes arrived halfway through the year and they have been great for the team,” he said.
“We have been playing some good footy.”
Under-17 coach Terry Reid has also been re-appointed.
“He’s been exceptionally positive, the side is starting to show signs of good quality football,” Campbell said.
“They are learning the game well, the way he has been teaching has been a godsend. Reid has already been motivating the team for next season and has got players already committed to 2018.”
