An update from the organisers of the event stated that the festival would bring economic benefits from visitors to the region, and 70 percent of the expected 900 attendees would be visitors.
Organised by the Australian based event company, 100% Events, the festival would be aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle as well as renewable energy. It would be family friendly and would potentially include a 21km half marathon, 14km run and a 5km and 2.5km fun run for people of all ages and abilities.
Council funding for this event would be allocated from the event development budget. Ararat mayor Paul Hooper said the potential of the event was impressive.
“It would be unique to Ararat, given the proximity to the wind farm, to have an event capitalising on that. It would bring tourists and benefits for the broader community. It’s now up to the organisers if they want to proceed with it,” Cr Hooper said.
