All three games in the opening round of the under-14 competition had to be called off due the weather, effectively delaying the start of the season by another week.
Horsham Saints managed to take to the field against West Wimmera Cricket Association in the under-16.5 competition.
West Wimmera won the toss and decided to bat first in the two-day game at Coughlin Park.
It was a tough 23 overs for the Saints’ bowlers as they failed to grab a wicket.
Josh Lees and Liam Preston both finished unbeaten in the 40s to give West Wimmera the upper hand.
Batting was not as easy for the Saints.
The side finished the morning’s play 3/45 despite a positive start from openers Corey Smith and Dylan Thompson who took the score to 24 before the first wicket of the day fell.
Josiah Mock, Shanaye Alexander and Liam Preston all claimed one wicket each.
The game will continue on Saturday with each side getting the chance to bat and bowl for a combined further 45 overs.
Dunmunkle Renegades were fixtured to play Jung-Blackheath-Dimboola at Murtoa in the other fixture of the opening round but scores could not be confirmed before deadline.
The competition has been reduced to just four teams this season due to numbers.
The season had a delayed start due to teams trying to organise numbers.
