The dawn service and main service attracted large crowds both young and old which was great to see.
A heart felt acoustic performance by members of the New Zealand community will also stick with me for a long time. Every year the RSL do a great job, so hats off.
Thank you to everyone that took the time to fill out the recent council services survey as part of council’s community engagement consultation for the 2016-17 draft budget.
The findings will now be considered and presented to council as a part of this year’s budget deliberations.
The survey was also another way council can gain feedback from the community on what services they use, what they see as most important, and how they think council are performing in providing those services.
The draft budget will be presented at a special council meeting on May 3 and then will be available for public viewing and comment from May 6.
It was great to see pet owners take up the April Pet Registration Amnesty. A total of 66 animals were micro-chipped and registered over the two Saturdays in Ararat, Lake Bolac and Willaura.
This was a great way to promote responsible pet ownership within the municipality.
Those who have paid their registrations will have a wandering dog returned to them free of charge for a first offence.
However, if found wandering and not registered, owners face the prospect of fines and pound fees to have their dog returned to them. VicRoads are calling for expressions of interest for the next construction phase of the Western Highway duplication between Buangor and Ararat.
This is exciting news for Ararat residents after the opening of the Buangor bypass and the increased speed limits along the new upgrade.
Construction from Buangor to Ararat is expected to start in early 2017 and will take about two years to complete.
Some pre-construction work, including fence building, is expected to start in the next few months.
As a part of this year’s Volunteers Week celebrations I encourage residents to nominate a friend or colleague who selflessly contributes countless hours to their community.
