The lawn bowls peak body Bowls Victoria has introduced the awards to recognise the contribution to the game by dedicated volunteers.
Two categories were on offer, with the club award recognising the input at club level, while a second category acknowledged the nominee’s contribution to the region in which the nominee’s club participates.
At club level the Ararat Bowls Club had no hesitation in recommending Mr Day, as his unsung volunteer work has spanned his 30 years as a valuable member.
The Bowls Victoria judging panel agreed completely, and for the Ararat Bowls Club Mr Day was awarded the Club Volunteer of the Year award.
The Ararat club submitted a further nomination for him to be considered for Wimmera Region award.
The Wimmera Region extends from Hopetoun, Boort to Edenhope including the Grampians Bowls Division and is made up of 40 plus bowls clubs.
Again the nomination was successful, and he became the Wimmera Region representative at the Bowls Victoria Volunteer of the Year Award Presentations at a ceremony in Melbourne.
In front of an appreciative audience Mr Day received his awards from the Bowls Victoria President John Fisher.
