The first week of the school holidays saw its weekly earnings jump 81 per cent on last week and pushed the film close to the top 40 movies of 2015 at the Australian box office.
Oddball had the best takings per screen of any film in this week’s top five (it’s ranked #4), earning about $1019 more per screen than the Adam Sandler vehicle Pixels (#2).
The bumper weekend for Oddball has helped propel Australian movies to their biggest year at the box office since 2001.
In 2001, Aussie films took a record haul of $63.4 million – this year’s box office receipts for home-grown product are at $59 million.
Both Oddball and children's animation Blinky Bill increased their haul compared to their opening weekends – an almost unheard of feat.
Four of the weekend's top 20 movies were Australian, with Last Cab To Darwin (total $7,056,000) and Holding The Man ($1,082,000) rounding out the numbers.
