Ararat Live has had Jimi in its sights for quite a while and is very excited having convinced him to perform a country show.
Jimi has been a stalwart of the Australian music scene since the 1980s.
He has played guitar, mandolin, keyboards and performed vocals in several iconic bands including The Astro Boys, The Aströs, The Housewarmers, The Angels, Jimi the Human and Spectre 7, Jimi Hocking Band, Jimi and The Human Condition and Jimi Hocking’s Blues Machine.
However, he is best known for his involvement with The Screaming Jets.
Jimi is in his element live on stage, whether it be at a small cafe or a massive festival.
His combination of high speed picking, banter and story-telling, wailing guitar and mandolin with superb songwriting and performance makes Jimi one of the ‘must-see’ acts in blues today.
He struts the stage, playing his ‘showy’ guitar style while pulling all the classic stunts; behind the head, the duck walk, even the splits.
Jimi has strong ties to Melbourne but has toured extensively across Australia and the United States, India and Nepal. Jimi performs at many Australian festivals as either a solo act or with a band, playing regular gigs across the city.
He is currently finishing a tour with The Screaming Jets, the last show being September 19 in Parkwood, Queensland. Jimi has earned many accolades from the music industry. He has produced several albums, the most recent Live In The Moment.
Jimi has also written music for film and TV and recorded and played for many other artists in a career spanning more than 25 years. He continues to write, record and perform with astonishing enthusiasm.
Ararat Live is a not-for-profit collective. Its main objective is to support original music. An entry fee of $20 per head goes to the performers and future events.
All Ararat Live shows are open to the general public but potential guests are encouraged to get on the mailing list.
