Cr Hooper’s comments follow the release of a report that has labelled the town as ‘disadvantaged’.
“This is nothing new, this has been around forever. All this tells us is a small percentage of us aren't as well off as the State average.”
"The negativity surrounding this is not helpful for anyone. We have a lot to be thankful for here in Ararat.”
Cr Hooper said Ararat is a community with great assets and great infrastructure.
“Look at the resources we have in terms of public infrastructure, we have brilliant schools, probably per capita the best recreation facilities in the state, access to aged care and a diversified shopping strip.”
Cr Hooper said the Ararat Wind Farm and Hopkins Correctional Centre development provided job opportunities for hundreds of people.
“These are consistent secure jobs that are going to serve our community well.”
