The Pumas began the match with fast, clinical netball that resulted in them taking a two goal advantage into the first break.
The visitors were methodical in their approach and Zanetta Hosking and Kira Stapleton were making it count on the scoreboard.
The second quarter was similar to the first, but the Hawks were the ones that seemed to use the ball more efficiently and were able to capitalise on their opportunities better than the opposition. This allowed them to peg back the score and tie things up by the main break.
The third quarter also belonged to Tatyoon, which increased its intensity and applied plenty of pressure, pushing out to a very handy five goal buffer at the final break.
Tatyoon's Sara Kinnersly (GA) was matched up against Moyston/Willaura's Katy Jewell (GD) with both players being important contributors for their team.
The other great contest was between the Pumas' Carmel Price and Hawks' Mary Butler.
Some interesting changes were made by the respective coaches at three quarter time, with Chloe Dunmore coming on at goal shooter for the Pumas and Maggie Astbury also moving into the same position for the Hawks.
Dunmore presented strongly and finished off superbly to become an influential player for her team in the last quarter.
On the other hand Tatyoon allowed simple errors to creep into its game and entry into the circle became limited.
In the end the gap Tatyoon had opened up during the third term proved critical in the dying stages, holding off a late Moyston/Willaura charge to win 42 to 41.
SM&W Rovers produced a convincing 14 goal win over opponent the Ararat Eagles, with the victory keeping the Bulldogs in touch with the top five currently in sixth position on percentage.
Rosemary Weatherly was exciting to watch in Rovers' midcourt, while Alana Jenkins was the standout performer for the Eagles.
Caramut and Great Western were the last two teams in the competition yet to win a match and it was the Swans that made the most of their opportunities to break the duck with a four goal win.
The Lions were in control at halftime, with centre player Tara Cadzow leading the way and support coming from in-form defender Erin Freeland.
Minor changes were made by both teams for the last quarter which saw Caramut up the intensity and take the direct path to the ring with attackers capitalising. This allowed the Swans to edge away with a 37 to 33 victory.
Lismore/Derrinallum got away to a blistering start in its match against Wickliffe/Lake Bolac and never looked back, winning 62 to 43.
The Magpies were best served by Simone McDonald, who was pivotal in attack and Georgia Notting through the midcourt.
