Interested community groups have held two meetings with councillors and council officers, the most recent on site at the centre.
"We met at McDonald Centre and looked through the building and at all of the plans," Cr Gwenda Allgood told council at a recent meeting.
"We had 14 people there sharing their ideas.
"If we did go ahead with APAC (Ararat Performing Arts Centre) changes the Ararat City Band would be looking for somewhere else to be housed so they've been interested as well.
"It's (community consultation) been a great success, and a lot of enthusiasm was shared around the room.
"It just goes to show that the centre could be utilised once again."
