VicRoads acting project director Steve Pattinson said a new overpass is being constructed at the Eurambeen-Streatham Road intersection west of Beaufort as part of the duplication project.
"A total of 10 beams were lifted on to two bridge spans that will form the 5.9 metre high interchange," he said.
"Now that the beams are in place, construction of the road deck, surfacing and barrier installation can begin.
"The beams - more than 33 metres long and weighing approximately 57 tonnes - were lifted over two consecutive days last week.
"This was a carefully planned operation to ensure the safety of motorists and workers with minimal disruptions to traffic."
Once complete, the interchange will give motorists travelling on Eurambeen-Streatham Road a safe connection to the opposite side of the highway or access to the highway itself.
