Motorists now have an alternative to the traditional method of using coins to pay for parking in Barkly Street; the EasyPark app gives an alternative to physically paying for parking.
Motorists will now have three options to pay for parking in Barkly Street in the metered bays, which include paying by phone using the EasyPark App, calling 1300 734 070 and talking to an operator and paying for your parking using your credit card, or continuing to use coins as normal.
The rationale behind this pay by app service is to bring Ararat into contemporary practices and give motorists further options to pay for their parking.
If you don't have coins to pay for parking, you can simply pay for the parking by the other two methods.
The current practice of using coins to pay for parking will continue, it is up to the individual which way they wish to pay.
This new service is provided by EasyPark - www.EasyPark.com.au. Registering for the service is quick and can be completed on the Smartphone App, on the website, or by calling the EasyPark customer service team on 1300 734 070. Once registered motorists can then use the EasyPark Smartphone App or call the service number to pay for parking.
EasyPark bills the parking fees to your credit or debit card.
Paying for parking by phone is quick and simple saving motorists both time and money.
Motorists that use the service:
No longer need coins to pay for parking in Barkly Street.
Simply set an initial parking time, the vehicle registration number, and the parking area code (found on signs and meters in Barkly Street).
Will receive an SMS reminder before the parking time expires (optional).
Simply extend the parking end-time from where they are without needing to return to the vehicle (up to the maximum allowable time - two hours)
Start the parking early in the morning before paid parking commences - the service will only start to charge you when paid parking starts.
Opt to obtain emailed parking receipts of each parking transaction, this is also stored in the Motorists EasyPark account and on the EasyPark App.
Only pay for the actual parking time used.
Signage will be installed in the coming days, and then the EasyPark option will be able to be used.
Barkly Street has been broken up into unique parking area codes that identify where your vehicle is parked. Simply type this zone into the app along with your registration number and select how long you wish to park for.
Council is hopeful the community takes this option up, as this will lead to less wear and tear on the meters, less time taken to collect the money and provides an easy alternative to the traditional payment method.
The greatest advantage is you only pay for the time you are parked for. If you have paid for two hours of parking and get all your shopping done in 30 minutes, you simply use the app and stop your parking time. This means that you only pay for the time you are physically parked there. However, if you forget to stop the parking via the app, you will be charged for the time you selected originally.
Council stresses that the ability to pay for the metered parking using coins will not change, this initiative just gives another two alternatives.
