Called 'Gallery 304', the window space gallery has been created by the school to showcase the work of its VCAL students and other faculties in the school.

The gallery came about through the work of students in years 10, 11 and 12, who are completing their Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning and participated in a photography unit with their teacher Simone Conroy, learning skills in photo editing and composition.

A core group of students also worked on the physical construction of the exhibition window space - 'Gallery 304'.

"The students have worked really hard on photographing a range of subjects. They have learnt valuable skills in composition and editing," Simone Conroy said.

"John Eagle did the opening speech and commended the students for their efforts to create such an interesting range of responses to the project.

"The students interested in wood work and building construction learnt some valuable skills in the making of the gallery window. It was just an empty corner space, but with the guidance of Mark Cattanach they were able to build an area that will showcase the excellent student work at Marian College. This has also been a good learning opportunity for students looking to go into a trade."

The students presented a folio of their photographs and the best were selected for the exhibition and they were then judged by the Marian College Art department.

First place when to Brandon Ferguson, second to Ben Cooper, third to Aiden Hillier and a highly commended award to Macey Alexander.

Marian College appreciates the assistance of Hansen Design and Print Ararat for printing the students' photos and to Choices Carpet Ararat for their kind donation of the carpet for the exhibition space, Brian Thomas Electrical Ararat for the lighting and a special mention to Mark Cattanach for his mentoring and guidance in helping the students create the space.

"It will become an ongoing feature display area for college artwork," Ms Conroy said.
