Both ladies have lived in Ararat all their lives, although during World War II Joyce worked for the Australian Women's Army Services in their Melbourne canteen while Joan worked at the Ararat Railway Station serving refreshments to the troop trains.
On returning to Ararat, Joyce worked in Fraser's Haberdashery for the next 37 years and loved her job and her boss, Gwen Semmens, so much that she went in to work on Saturday mornings for free!
Since they turned 50 the ladies have shared their birthday celebrations and this weekend will share their 90th birthdays with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and friends at the Ararat Bowling Club.
