The week long national competition to be held in Perth from September 18-20 will see Tyson showcase his talents in the Landscape Construction category.
Tyson, an employee at Urban Landcraft - Landscape Construction in Geelong was chosen after an impressive outing at a regional event at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show last year.
Returning to the region every weekend to play sport, Tyson said he couldn't quite believe it when he received the call from the judge telling him he had been chosen.
"It all came as a bit of a shock, I got the call as I was heading out to play football one weekend," he said.
"At the time I just thought it was one of my mates pulling my leg."
There are 50 trade and skill areas in all to be represented at the event with each category containing a bundle of subsets.
Tyson has undertaken after hours training and attended training camps in preparation for the event.
"It will be a solid week, there will be a day of familiarisation, opening ceremony, three days of competition and medals awarded after," he said.
Tyson will have 21 hours across the three days to impress the judges.
He will be judged on how he presents himself, how his display is completed and whether it is done in a timely manner.
"I will be putting together a 3x3 display incorporating brick, timber and paving work, turf and plants," he said.
It will be the first time the nation's largest and most prestigious skill and trade showcase has been held in Perth since 1989.
In addition to battling it out for the gold medal and the prestigious title of 'Nation's Best', Tyson will also be vying for a coveted position on the 2015 Team Australia Skillaroos.
If successful Tyson will head to Brazil to represent Australia at the 43rd WorldSkills International Competition, the culmination of WorldSkills competitions, to be held in Sao Paolo from August 11 to 16 next year.
"If you win you get to go to Brazil, why wouldn't I want a chance to be a part of that?" Tyson said.
