With last year's successful production of Beauty and the Beast featuring a large cast, the Society again wanted to stage a show which would allow a large range of people to show off their talents on stage.
The Witches of Eastwick is set in the sleepy New England town of Eastwick, where the three (not-so-wicked) witches Alexandra Spofford, Sukie Rougemont and Jane Smart are divorcees feeling trapped in their everyday humdrum lives.
One stormy night they make a crazy wish - for a man to make their own.
But their wish has consequences they could never have dreamed of, setting in motion a series of events that will change Eastwick forever - all in the form of Darryl Van Horne.
There are 10 main characters, including Darryl Van Horne, Jane Smart, Sukie Rougemont, Alexandra Spofford, Felicia Gabriel, the self styled 'first lady' of Eastwick, Clyde Gabriel, her husband, Michael Spofford, Alexandra's son, Jennifer Gabriel, Felicia's daughter, Fidel, Darryl's sidekick, and a young girl who appears sporadically throughout the show.
There are also many speaking and singing roles for the chorus, which is large and has a number of songs to sing throughout.
The Society will hold a familiarisation night this Thursday, December 12, at the SES headquarters in High Street at 7.30pm, where more detailed information will be provided on the show and all are welcome.
The Society is currently seeking a director and musical director for The Witches of Eastwick, so if you've ever had a desire to take on one of these roles please attend the familiarisation night on Thursday, or phone Grant on 0407 721 846 for further information.
