Willaura celebrates Christmas in July
KIDS of all ages love Christmas and last weekend in Willaura kids of all ages came together to celebrate Christmas in July.

Over 130 hundred and thirty Willaura community member gathered in the Memorial Hall on July 25 th to celebrate a mid-year Christmas.
The evening was the brainchild of local baker Peter Sporton, who along with his crew and other community volunteers, organised a full Christmas dinner for everyone.
Of course, Santa was there to hand out presents to the children, and they also enjoyed indoor games beforehand.
Despite lots of eager participants, there was no apparent winner to the Sporton Quiz, but that didn’t matter.
One winner on the night was Katy Price, whose sparkling Christmas lights jumper caught the judge’s eye.
Along with many other communities surrounding the National Park, the Christmas period was marred for many in the Willaura district by the Grampians fires that raged from December 17 th till after Boxing Day.
Many found themselves having to evacuate early, leave the Christmas table to move livestock and fight fires, or watch nervously while fires burned around the district.
The July Christmas was therefore an opportunity that allowed children and adults alike to relax, mingle, and enjoy the fun of Christmas without the stress of summer heat and a bushfire threatening their homes and livelihoods.
