The redevelopment is one of the early initiatives of the site master plan adopted by Council in November 2025 and will include upgraded netball courts, changerooms and spectator seating.

Created in conjunction with the Waubra Community Hub Committee, the master plan features a range of initiatives that could be delivered over the coming years to ensure an inclusive and accessible community hub for the whole community to enjoy and remain active.

The 2025/26 Victorian Budget is investing $20 million to continue delivering high-quality, accessible community sport infrastructure through programs like the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund.

These investments are helping more Victorians get active while supporting local jobs, economies and healthier communities.

New data from Sport and Recreation Victoria shows more than 330 funded projects over two years have increased participation by almost 43 per cent – bringing more than 70,200 new participants into sport, including a 19 per cent increase in girls.

Ms Haylett said community sport facilities like the Waubra Recreation Reserve are at the heart of towns and suburbs right across Victoria.

“We’re making sure more people can get involved in the sports they love, closer to home, with modern and accessible facilities.”

Pyrenees Shire Council Acting CEO Douglas Gowans said the Victorian Government funding support will progress the vital netball redevelopment to shovel ready to apply for capital works funding.

“This funding is one of the first steps in bringing the Waubra Recreation Reserve Master Plan to fruition,” Mr Gowans said.
