Warriors focus on continuing to build

The Stawell Warriors host the Warrack Eagles at Central Park tomorrow in round nine of the Wimmera Football Netball League and aim to continue to build their game following a two-week break.

The break came at the right time with the club having notable injuries. James Sullivan, Andrew Lowe and Angus Barham are close to returning, and Hayden Hamilton, who made his debut this season is also not far away.

The Warriors are sitting in fourth spot, equal with Dimboola and Horsham Saints, and a win could move them into outright third should Dimboola lose to the Thunder.

Despite that, Warriors co-coach James Sullivan said the focus is on what they need to do as a team, not on ladder positions.

“The break came at a good time, and it gave us a chance to freshen up as we had a few sore bodies and are looking forward to playing on our home deck in front of our home crowd,” Sullivan said.

“We don’t focus too much on the ladder. For us we just want to play the brand of footy we want to play, and it is still a work in progress.

“The game plan wasn’t going to come straight away, but we are building on that, and we will focus on what we want to bring as we know what Dimboola will bring,” Sullivan said.

“We will back our system and how we want to play. We are confident if we play our best footy and focus on the brand, we want to play then we can continue our current form.”
